Hellfire Citadel - Fel Lord Zakuun

Postby aggixx » Tue Jun 23, 2015 7:34 pm

Please use this thread to discuss the Fel Lord Zakuun encounter in Hellfire Citadel. As always, please specify raid difficulty when discussing strats - a Heroic tactic may be completely unfeasible in Mythic.

Seen a lot of people not understanding howCavitation works. He casts this towards ranged players and it spawns wakes of destruction aimed at where ranged players were standing. If you are at max melee range it will hit you, so get really close to the boss so that it will just fly over your head.

Make sure your melee pile stacks up so that the person with befouled can move to a side and get it healed off without having to run out of melee range.

If you get seed of destruction, stop moving before it goes off and after it goes off do not immediately run back to melee, let the wakes spread out a bit before you head back so that you can dodge them and not immediately die.

To elaborate, he faces one ranged player and then shoots a projectile at every ranged in a cone. If you just face the boss towards the ranged you can ignore the mechanic entirely.

Because there's not much for melee to do on this fight, those of us who are mechanically challenged can really rake up the dps. Just keep in mind one thing -- never get the purple debuff as feral. That means never soak a pillar and never get hit by the tank waves. However, you can and should intercept the waves from cavitation and seed so that they don't hit pillars. Those waves won't give you the debuff and deal minor damage.

If you happen to derp or there's an emergency situation where you have to soak a pillar, make sure you get away from the boss when he cavitates. Although the waves aren't supposed to hit melee, they sometimes do, and you have a chance to explode if you're too close to the boss to dodge them.

Because the Cavitation is only targeted at ranged they should be stacked up at an angle that will prevent it from ever getting near pillars. Cavitation is not something anyone should ever have to soak. As long as you aren't at max melee range you are never going to be hit by Cavitation waves. Just stand right on his feet and you will be just fine.

You can get hit by the waves as they come out of his hitbox if you are too close to the center. Just stand at 'normal' melee range and you will be fine. Most of the issues are caused by melee who are too close to him.

If you recently soaked a pillar and you get seed of destruction on you, remember that you can blink out of it to safety as soon as the waves start appearing. Personally this made it alot easier for me to dodge the waves instead of trying to dodge all the 4 others peoples waves coming at me from everywhere.

If you have all 4 seeds stand in a line you need only take 2 steps forward and you avoid everything. No need to blink at all.

Yeah, not needed, but it will certainly get you more quickly back into spot and it do feel alot safer in case someone which have seed doesn't place it correctly, perhaps on progress, then there's always the option to blink out of it.

IMO it's a better idea to blink to your spot when you get the seed so you have more time to position yourself correctly.

My group used a stampeding roar rotation for that, but what people want to use the blink for is up to themself tbh. Just wanted to write it out here that it's an option, cause in the heat of the moment when you're really close to the kill I felt like having that blink there to safety were nice to have.

We use stampeding roars for every seed. I personally always used blink to get back mostly because I was one of the people that kept the debuff for the rest of the fight to dodge. In that scenario I felt it was more safe to instantly blink and gain distance then to risk getting hit even once.
